ON HOLD - Pair of 11" Perforated Metal Sconces in the Style of Mathieu Matégot

$4,600.00

A pair of 1970’s ivory perforated metal wall sconces. Created through folding of metal sheet it follows a tipical mid-century metal processing technique: calendering, a metal bending technique often used to create a “shade” for lamps. It was used in many furniture designs of the 50s and 60s in Europe, such as the famous Foglio sconces by Tobia e Afra Scarpa.

In the style of Mathieu Matégot.

Mathieu Matégot was a French-Hungarian designer and upholsterer. He was born in 1910 in suburban Budapest, where he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1929. He traveled to the United States and Italy before settling in Paris. There he began working as a set designer and window dresser in department stores such as the Folies Bergère and Galerie Lafayette. After World War I, he founded his own studio and workshop, dedicated to the experimental creation of furniture and decorative objects. His designs are characterized by the extensive use of different materials, such as metal, glass, fabrics and leather. In 1959 Matégot abandoned furniture production to devote himself exclusively to the production of upholstery and tapestries, an activity he continued until 2001, the year of his death.
